126 Korean-Owned Businesses Damaged by Protestors Nationwide

June 17, 2020

Over 126 Korean-owned businesses have been damaged or destroyed during the recent protests and riots nationwide, according to the Korean Herald.

It’s not clear how many businesses other Asian-American groups have lost nationwide, the numbers keep coming in. The Korean Herald reported the Foreign Ministry of South Korea indicated a rough estimate around 126 businesses across the United States. Philadelphia alone saw 56 cases, followed by 14 in Chicago, 10 in Minneapolis, 10 in St. Louis, 6 in Raleigh, North Carolina, and four in Washington, four in New York City’s Bronx, and another four in Atlanta, Georgia.

Thankfully, no casualties from the Korean community have been reported.

Prime Minister Chung Se-kyun summoned the South Korean ambassador to the United States, Lee Soo-hyuck, and instructed him to extend “proactive” consular protection for Korean nationals and also, to cooperate with US authorities to help prevent further economic and physical harm to Koreans across the country.
