VICTORIA, Australia—A teenager has been arrested following the fatal stabbing of 16-year-old Pasawm Lyhym at a bus stop in front of other students and commuters on May 18.

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested, while two other suspects of the same age have been identified and remain at large, according to Victoria Police.

Staughton College student Lyhym was stabbed in the neck at a bus stop in Sunshine just before 3:45 p.m. on May 18, reports 9News.

Authorities believe a group of high school students got into an altercation with Lyhym and a group of his friends just before the stabbing. The cause of the fight is still unknown.

Police say the groups were known to each other.

Lyhym died at the scene despite desperate attempts by responding paramedics and a 16-year-old boy was also found with minor injuries after the incident and had to be hospitalized.

Witnesses around the area told 9News they saw a number of teenagers running and screaming at the time of the attack and some were carrying weapons.

Authorities later confirmed through surveillance footage that Lyhym was attacked by a group of teens armed with knives.

The Victoria Matu Community has released a statement saying Pasawm “was a beloved and cherished member of the Matu community”.

“We are deeply shocked and saddened by this terrible news,” the statement reads.

“Pasawm always wore a warm and sincere smile wherever he went.

“He will be greatly missed. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the Lyhym family during this difficult time.”
