GoFundMe Started for Asian Man Seriously Injured While Killing Robber in SF

November 29, 2021

SAN FRANCISCO, California—Police are investigating a homicide in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood after two people were shot Thursday afternoon, November 4, during an attempted robbery.

This comes as neighbors in the area become increasingly concerned with the recent spike in violent crime.

Multiple sources from ABC7’s Dion Lim say the robber who was shot and killed was 21-year-old Samuel Jessop-Burciaga, also known to his friends and family as “Sammy.” It was he and another robber who tried robbing the Asian man.

Jessop-Burciaga and another man got out of a car and tried robbing a random Asian man crossing the street.

A struggle soon ensued, the Asian man wrangled a gun away from Jessop-Burciaga and shot him in the face point-blank. Jessop Burciaga fell on top of the Asian man and the other robber fired multiple shots, striking the Asian man multiple times.

A GoFundMe page has been created by the victim’s brother. This investigation is ongoing and more detail is being withheld.

According to the victim’s GoFundMe page, “I’m the brother of the victim that got robbed and shot on Haight and Masonic on November 4th 2021 while he was at work. My brother has been hospitalized since the incident and he has still not able to eat or drink anything and will be in the hospital for a total of 2 months or longer. It is a hard time for him, and is worried about his medical bills, rent and walking and doing normal things for himself.”

According to the victim’s brother, the victim’s life has been completely upended by this crime due to the seriousness of the injuries and the length of his hospital stay.

The most ironic part of this story is local residents actually created a small memorial where one of the criminals, Sammy Jessop-Burciaga, died from his injuries after being shot in the face. The memorial was not once vandalized.

Remember Hana Abe, the Japanese woman who was killed by a fatal hit-and-run on New Year’s Eve 2020 by three-strike offender African-American Troy McAlister? Her memorial was vandalized multiple times within a week. Let that sink in.

Many told reporter Dion Lim, the desecrated memorial is the symbolism of the problems in San Francisco. That the city is in decline.
