San Jose Police Arrest Man Who Purse Snatched Asian Women

SAN JOSE, California—Authorities have arrested 23-year-old Hassani Burleson-Ramsey in Oakland on Wednesday, April 28. He is one of two suspects responsible for nine purse snatchings in San Jose and up to an additional 30 robberies throughout the Bay Area, according to KPIX5.

Police say the suspects tracked their victims in parking lots at shopping centers. The suspects would block the victims’ vehicles, smash their windows and leave the scene with purses and other personal belongings.

After the robberies, the Asian victims reported fraudulent activity on their credit cards or other types of identity-related fraud, reports KPIX5.

San Jose detectives were able to link the suspects to additional robberies with the help of police departments in Hayward, Newark, Oakland, and Union City as well as the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.

According to KPIX5, Ramsey was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for multiple counts of felony robbery and misdemeanor vandalism.

San Jose police are seeking assistance in identifying the second suspect. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Crime Stoppers tip line at 408-947-7867.

Police also add that anyone giving information leading to an arrest and conviction of the suspect may be eligible for a reward.
