Suspect Arrested Years After Murdering Asian Man

CHARLOTTE, NC—The suspected murderer of 23-year-old Li Y has been apprehended more than three years after his body was found outside an apartment complex in northeast Charlotte.

Joshua Garmon, 23, was the African-American male identified as a person of interest in the case on Wednesday.

After an interview with investigators, Garman was charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Li Y was shot dead on April 23, 2020. Police found him lying beside a car in the road on Paces Oaks Boulevard, according to WSOC-TV.

Y was the child of Vietnamese parents and was the only son of Nhang and Nam Y. He graduated from a Charlotte magnet high school and a local community college.
