Asian Bartender Kidnapped in Philadelphia

April 2, 2023

PHILADELPHIA, PA—Police are looking for an Asian-American man who they say was abducted returning home from work.

Multiple armed men forced Wey Um, 48, into a dark-colored newer model Ford Explorer near the 900 block of East Godfrey Avenue around 2:30 a.m. Friday.

“There is no trace of him. There’s no phone calls. There’s no evidence that he’s at a hospital or injured. So we’re very concerned for his well-being and we want anyone, if they know anything about it, to give us a call,” stated Frank Vanore, Deputy Commissioner of Investigations for the Philadelphia Police Department.

Authorities say the suspects were wearing dark, hooded sweatshirts and were armed with handguns.

Um is a bartender at Oxford Tavern on Oxford Avenue, reports ABC6 Philadelphia.

The 48-year-old bartender was robbed outside Oxford Tavern back on March 6 by a masked man, but never reported it to the police. Authorities released a photo of the suspect in that robbery, hoping it may lead them to Um.

The suspects are considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information is asked to call the police at 215-685-3263.
