TRENTON, NJ—A woman has been arrested after she allegedly tried to hire a hitman to kill her ex-husband’s new wife and the woman’s daughter, prosecutors said.
Marilyn Zhou, 56, was charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count of money laundering after the hitman she thought she was hiring turned out to be an undercover cop, reports the New York Post.
Zhou had been looking for someone to carry out the murder earlier this month.
The 56-year-old suspect met with an undercover officer in Trenton on December 18 and explained she wanted her ex-husband’s new wife killed and also explained if the woman’s 13-year-old daughter was present at the time of the would-be hit, she should also be killed.
Zhou forked over $21,000 in cash and offered to pay another $20,000 once the hit was complete. She also provided the undercover officer with rubber gloves, a towel, and two photographs of the woman she wanted to be killed.
Shortly after the meeting, Zhou was arrested by the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Special Investigations Unit. They later found $18,000 cash after searching her home in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania.
