NEW YORK CITY—Just another day in the Rotten Apple. A Chinese man was assaulted and robbed inside a Chinatown grocery store and the NYPD is searching for the duo responsible.
Two African-American suspects entered the Ru Yi Grocery at 139 Division Street just before 5 p.m. on Monday, March 14. One of the suspects approached the 59-year-old Chinese victim and told him he had a gun and demanded money, reports Audacy.
After the victim refused to comply, the other suspect locked the front door of the store and then both suspects proceeded to assault the 59-year-old.
The pair of assailants stole $400 from the cash register before fleeing the scene, according to the NYPD.
The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries, according to Audacy.
The first suspect is described as having a dark complexion, last seen wearing a gray hooded sweater, black jeans, and black sneakers.
